Ian Brown, ISSA CPT, B.S. Exercise Science
Growing up, Ian was always active. He spent time in his basement lifting weights and hiking the canal paths. In high school, he participated in varsity shotput and discus as well as diving. He spent more time in the weightroom than at practice. He never realized that he was aimless when it came to fitness until he entered the military.
While in the US Navy, Ian found the direction he needed. He realized the importance for education and proper programming in order to fully benefit from the exercises he was doing. Ian spent all of his off-time in the gym while working to earn a personal training certification through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA).
Once back home in Rochester, Ian began training individuals, but he was hungry for more. He enrolled in college to pursue a degree in exercise science. His time at SUNY Brockport not only fortified his training knowledge, but also taught him biomechanical concepts, performance nutrition, cardiac and injury rehabilitation, and more. He spent his internship with 4 Performance learning how to properly program and coach individual athletes as well as sports teams, such as the Nazareth field hockey team.
Ian has found his home at East Ave Barbell, surrounded by like-minded people that share his passion for strength. Being an East Ave Barbell coach has given him the opportunity to help people be the best version of themselves by sharing what he loves to do.
Strongman was a natural choice for Ian, based on his love of lifting heavy objects and the ever evolving events. He has competed in multiple competitions and is continually preparing for the next challenge.
“Competition is not about being better than the person next to you, it’s about being better than you were before.”
